DFDS enters container service between Spain, the UK and Ireland

As of 1 March 2006, DFDS’ Norwegian subsidiary DFDS Lys Line AS will enter into a joint service with the Spanish shipping company Vapores Suardiaz Norte S.L. to operate a joint weekly container service between Bilbao , Avonmouth, Dublin and Greenock.

The new service will be marketed under the name DFDS SUARDIAZ LINE. The new container ship M.S. ENDEAVOUR will be deployed on the service. The ship has a capacity of 750 teu and a service speed of 18 knots.

DFDS SUARDIAZ LINE has a considerable container fleet at its disposal, including both 20', 40' and 45' units, and thus offers integrated door-to-door solutions. DFDS Lys Line's subsidiaries will be the agents for the service in England, Scotland and Ireland, while Spain will be covered by Suardiaz's offices in more than ten Spanish cities.

DFDS Lys Line already serves Spain via a weekly sideport/container service between Norway/Sweden and Bilbao in Northern Spain. The new route underpins DFDS' strategy to gain a stronger position on the Iberian Peninsula.
